About the Role

We are looking for an individual with a degree or similar experience in social sciences or similar discipline who is highly motivated to deliver impactful applied research. The successful candidate must have experience of working within a research department or organisation, and ideally have knowledge of social impact and the sport, youth and/or recreation sectors.

The core purpose of the Researcher position is to undertake quantitative and qualitative research work as part of the research team at Substance.

This will involve working on an exciting variety of projects of national importance across our portfolio of projects including: research on the value of football for UEFA; research on social, economic and environmental impact of recreational sea angling for the UK and Welsh Governments (undertaken with Cefas); evaluating the Sport England GM Moving LDP; evaluating the Chances youth programme; researching projects funded by Sport England; and assessing the BBC Children in Need Curiosity informal science learning programme. You will be involved in research, administration and analysis of these major research projects.

Activities will include literature and documentary reviews, recruitment and engagement of research participants and survey respondents, delivery of surveys, conducting interviews, focus groups, workshops and other digital qualitative research, preparing analysis and summary reporting.

Remuneration package

£22,000 – £28,000 basic package depending on experience plus 25 days annual leave per year, working from home flexibility, key lifestyle benefits, pension scheme and regular social events.
